He left the supreme administrative service and became part of the campaign to liberate the country. He had to go to jail 11 times in his life. He first went to jail on 16 July 1921.
Azad Hind Fauj consisted of about 85000 soldiers. It also had a female unit with Captain Laxmi Swaminathan.
